The best nature walks

Montañas heladas

Sierra Nevada: a proper mountain range (National Park)

Ideal if you’re looking for high-mountain scenery, viewpoints and walking routes in a protected area with facilities and options to suit all abilities.

Los Cahorros de Monachil: the most ‘fun’ route near Granada.

A classic for one reason: footbridges, narrow suspension bridges and vertical rock faces. Perfect if you’re looking for ‘stunning’ natural scenery without having to travel far.

Paisaje de Sierra Huétor

Sierra de Huétor Natural Park: woodland, gorges and karst formations.

About 20 km from Granada, you’ll find a natural park featuring rolling hills, ravines, streams and limestone terrain with karst formations. It’s a great choice for a peaceful day of walking and picnicking.

La casa del Desierto de Gorafe

Granada Geopark: landscapes ‘from another planet’ (UNESCO)

If you fancy something a bit different from ‘greenery and woodland’, this is the place for badlands, geology and viewpoints. It’s a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Quick tips

Bring water and suitable footwear: even short routes may have rocky sections and patchy shade.

In protected areas, please observe the signs and follow the advice (particularly in the Sierra Nevada).

If you’re heading to Los Cahorros, remember that it’s a gorge: it’s best to allow plenty of time and take your time.
